PTFE O-rings are generally used as sealing components at static and low speeds. They are preferred in operations with impacts and vibrations, at very high pressures and where force needed to tighten the gasket is low. When flexibilty is required, channelled O-ring types should be preferred. If there is motion in the operating environment, PTFE spiral rings are used together with elastomer O-rings. The function of spiral rings is to prevent the elastomer O-ring from being compressed between seat and axis because of fluid pressure and friction and also to extend operation life.
